Around here, Friday nights in the spring and summer mean one thing: dirt track racing. If you are looking at a property like 6260 Farm Road 197 in Arthur City, you are not just buying a log cabin on 4.5 acres. You are also putting yourself minutes from some of the best short-track racing in Northeast Texas. And as someone who loves this community and the traditions that bring it together, I can tell you there is nothing quite like a night at the track.

The Shannon Miles Group is proud to sponsor local racing talent, including Riley Barnes Racing, a rising young driver we have been thrilled to support. Being part of that world has given us an even deeper appreciation for the sport and the people behind it. Racing is family here. It is neighbors, friends, and strangers becoming friends over the roar of engines and the smell of racing fuel.

Rocket Raceway Park in Paris

The crown jewel of our local track scene is Rocket Raceway Park, located just south of Paris on Highway 79. From 6260 Farm Road 197, it is a quick and easy drive. You can leave after work and still catch hot laps. Rocket Raceway hosts a packed calendar of events year-round: Championship Nights, Factory Stock races, Jr. Limited Modifieds, and the annual Super Tex 600, an endurance race that draws drivers and fans from across the region. The track is well maintained, the grandstands are comfortable, and the concessions sell some of the best barbecue within a hundred miles.

Families bring lawn chairs, kids run around the grassy areas behind the bleachers, and the whole community turns out. It is the kind of place where everyone knows the flagman by name and the announcer has been calling races for decades.

More Tracks Within Reach

If you want to catch racing on different nights or see a wider variety of divisions, there are several other tracks within an easy drive of Arthur City. Hunt County Raceway in Greenville is about 45 minutes east and runs a strong Friday night program with Late Models, Limited Modifieds, and Street Stocks. Texarkana 67 Speedway is just across the state line in Arkansas, roughly an hour northeast, and offers a fast 3/8-mile clay oval with races on Saturday nights. And for a bigger trip, Devils Bowl Speedway in Mesquite is about an hour and a half south, hosting the World of Outlaws and some of the biggest races in Texas.

What Makes Dirt Track Racing Special

Dirt track racing is a staple of rural Texas culture. There is an honesty to it. Drivers build their own cars in their own shops. Families spend the week wrenching in the garage and the weekend racing in the dust. You smell barbecue on the grill and race fuel in the air at the same time. You hear engines fire up and kids laughing in the same moment. It is community, pure and simple.

Living at 6260 Farm Road 197 gives you the best of both worlds. You are close enough to Rocket Raceway for a spontaneous Friday night trip. You can be in the stands with a cold drink before the first green flag waves. And the rest of the week, you have 4.5 acres of peace and quiet, a wood-burning fireplace, and a wrap-around porch to enjoy the silence and the stars.

"Dirt track racing is community, pure and simple. You smell barbecue on the grill and race fuel in the air at the same time."
