Camping and Trails at Pat Mayse State Park

Pat Mayse State Park offers camping at three main campgrounds: Sanders Cove, Pat Mayse West, and Pat Mayse East. Between them, there are well over 200 sites, many with electric hookups, showers, and easy access to the water. The campgrounds are open year-round, and I recommend reserving ahead during warmer months when families come from across the region. It is a popular spot for good reason.

There are hiking and mountain biking trails winding through the woods around the lake, plus a sandy beach area for swimming. For nature lovers, the park and the surrounding Pat Mayse Wildlife Management Area offer excellent birdwatching and wildlife observation. Deer, turkey, waterfowl, and a variety of songbirds are common sights. If hunting is your thing, the WMA spans nearly 9,000 acres of public hunting land managed by Texas Parks and Wildlife.

The Red River Is Right There Too

Beyond the lake, the Red River forms the northern border of Lamar County, and it is just a few miles from Arthur City. The river offers additional opportunities for fishing, hunting, and exploring. If you are the kind of person who wants water, woods, and wide open spaces all within reach of your front door, this corner of Texas delivers.
